What is GABA?

Gamma-Aminobutyric acid is an amino acid produced naturally in the brain. GABA functions as a neurotransmitter, facilitating communication among brain cells. GABA’s primary role in the body is to reduce the activity of neurons in the brain and central nervous system, which in turn has a broad range of effects on the body and mind, including increased relaxation, reduced stress, a more calm, balanced mood and elevated sense of well-being, alleviation of pain, and preparation for a good night’s sleep. GABA is also known as a peace-promoting neurotransmitter. It improves emotional intelligence, eases socialization, and increases empathy. GABA has been used clinically for depressed sex drive, prostate problems, and as a non-addictive tranquilizer substitute.

How did GABA get into this tea?

GABA Tea is an all-natural, 100% organic source of GABA. It was unintentionally discovered more than 20 years ago by Japanese researchers looking for a natural method to preserve food. They discovered that tea which is oxidized in a nitrogen-rich atmosphere has a higher concentration of GABA elements than any other type of tea in the world. The most prestigious tea masters from around the world, with whom we lovingly partner, have enhanced this naturally occurring process by exposing fresh high-mountain tea leaves to nitrogen levels that occur in the stratosphere. Once the tea leaves are harvested, they are immediately placed in space-age stainless-steel vacuum drums, having oxygen removed and replaced with nitrogen. The tea leaves are exposed to this nitrogen-rich atmosphere for 8 hours at a temperature that must be kept above 104 degrees Fahrenheit for the duration of the processing.
